True Lies (Region 1) at 17.18 on 19/07/02 |
|
Richard Powell has taken a look at the region 1 release of True Lies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Tia Carrere and Bill Paxton. Here's an extract from Richard's review:
'True Lies is a great ride, a real clever mix of humor and action, even a little bit of drama for good measure. Suffice it to say, had this film been directed by anyone else other than Cameron, it would have suffered. Even though he has only directed seven features to date (does Piranha II even count?), Cameron has shown himself to be a true master of the medium we hold so near and dear...'

So bear that in mind when you see the extras below. Its quite a list! Here's what you can expect with the rental version:

There's practically no news today, so I've put together a few things of interest for the upcoming release of Spider-Man. First up we have the coverart for both the Widescreen and Fullscreen versions of the film, and also just released is a first look at 2 of the menus for the DVD! To take a look at these properly, click here. Pretty funky menus if you ask me, I especially like the look of the Green Goblin one (I'm sure he reminds me of someone!).
Secondly, lot's of people have been emailing me in regard to the region 2 copy of the film which has yet to be officially announced. We don't have any solid details, but at the moment it looks as if the film will be released on or around the 4th November this year. The disc is expected to be the same as the American release. Obviously as soon as we have the official announcement from Columbia, we'll let you know! |

In his grittiest role since Get Carter, Michael Caine delivers a knock out performance as a ruthless boxing promoter in Shiner. Available to own on DVD from 14th October courtesy of Momentum Pictures, Caine returns to his South London roots for a frighteningly believable performance that has been singled out for praise by the critics.
Caine plays Billy, boxing promoter come Cockney gangster. A proud, bullying and larger than life character, Billy sees his long awaited chance to make it to the big time by arranging a world title fight between his heavyweight son, Golden Boy, played by Matthew Marsden, and the vicious American champion managed by Shiners adversary Frank Spedding (Martin Landau).
Investing everything he has to make his dream become reality, Shiner is riding high as the preparations are put in place and the TV cameras start rolling. As his past starts catching up with him, however, events begin spiralling out of control and it soon becomes clear that, for Shiner, the fighting and real action have only just begunHeres what you can expect from the disc:
Anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer Dolby Digital 5.1 audio Making of Trailer
You can expect Shiner to retail for around 19.99 on its release. |

The Phantom Menace Review (Region 1) at 20.48 on 17/07/02 |
|
Richard Powell has taken a look at Star Wars: The Phantom Menace starring Liam Neeson, Ewean McGregor, Natalie Portman and that annoying kid Jake Lloyd. Here's an extract from Richard's review:
'Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace is the only film in recent memory that has been talked about, fought about, praised and panned as much as it was during the time of its release. It simply amazes me because from where I sit, people seemed to have spent more time arguing about the new Star Wars than they discussed current events or the global climate of the time (of course, I cant recall what the global climate or the current events of the time were. Naturally, I was too busy talking about Star Wars)...'

The Horror Collection - update (Region 2) at 16.35 on 17/07/02 |
|
As a follow up to our earlier article on Momentum's forthcoming horror releases, we now have clarification of a couple of issues. Firstly, all titles will feature Dolby 2.0 soundtracks, with the exception of Blair Witch 2, which comes with a 5.1 mix.
The confusion over which version of King Kong will be released has also been resolved. I can now confirm my previous guess to be correct, in that its the 1976 film starring Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange thats getting a release, not the phantom 1988 version! |
